June 2009

By: James Watson

As many of you know, June is Seniors Month and that means a deluge of events to attend for every professional in the field. No different for those of us at Premier Homecare Services.

Anybody in the senior care business within the Greater Toronto Area has probably met Jane Teasdale, has heard about her, or has seen her whiz by like a blur as she travels from the rehab centre in one neighbourhood to the community centre on the other side of the city and then to one of the hospitals downtown. Emails on a Sunday afternoon and a full calendar stretching 6 months ahead, anybody with the experience of working directly with her can testify to her limitless energy and ability to capitalize on any opportunity. Jane is the Business Development Director at Premier Homecare Services Toronto.

Ortho-Walk, Community Hospital

Kicking off the feeling of Seniors Month even before it started, Jane co-sponsored the Ortho-Walk, organized by the North York General Hospital Foundation, on May 31st. Here she witnessed over 300 people come out to support their local, proactive, community driven hospital.

Senior Games

A few days later she attended an awards ceremony for the North York Senior Games. Part of the Ontario Senior Games Association, the games are held in 40 districts through out Ontario from April to June. Over 20,000 seniors participate, encompassing a range of events from chess and euchre to bocce and slow-pitch softball. Premier Homecare Services helped to sponsor the North York games alongside primary sponsor Delmanor Seniors Communities, Delmanor North Town.

Deaf and Blind Fundraiser

Jane is also an active member of the North York Elder Abuse Network (NYEAN) and so on June 16th she was invited to display her information about supports for vulnerable seniors at an event in North York’s Mel Lastman Square. An occasion to raise money for the Canadian Helen Keller Centre, the event boasted a great turnout in addition to the numerous attendees from the deaf and blind community.

Jane Teasdale's 'Certificate of Honour' from the North York General Hospital Foundation

Well-Deserved Recognition

All said and done, Jane’s efforts do not go unnoticed. Thanks to her endless support and commitment, the North York General Hospital Foundation awarded her a ‘Certificate of Honour’. It reads: “Mrs. Jane Teasdale is hereby recognized by North York General Hospital Foundation for generously supporting and embracing the health care of our community.” Chalk this up to her already long list of accolades and June is just another typical month in the work of Jane Teasdale.
